Frigo Group: Specialist in frozen food logistics with a focus on road transport and France

Frigo Group has been a leading family business in the Netherlands since 1973, specialising in the storage, distribution and transport of chilled and frozen food. Whether it’s chips, ice cream, bread, fish or meat, Frigo ensures that the cold chain is not interrupted, from producer to customer. Thanks to strategic cold stores, modern logistics systems, certifications and its own transport network, the company offers total solutions. In this article, we take a look at exactly what Frigo Group does, with a special focus on road transport and the connection with France.

Frigo Group at a glance

Frigo Group has two main locations: the cold store in Nieuw-Vennep with a capacity of approximately 22,000 pallets, and logistics facilities in Geldermalsen. Frigo ‘s-Heerenberg was previously part of the group, but that location was sold in 2020; since then, the company has continued to operate from the two remaining locations.

Its services include storage at a constant temperature, refrigerated and frozen transport, ambient transport (unrefrigerated), handling such as order picking, container loading/unloading, customs clearance, groupage, and customised solutions. Certifications such as IFS Logistics and Skal, plus licences for meat transport (‘K and B’) and customs (Entrepot C) form an important basis for quality and compliance.

Road transport: the backbone of Frigo’s logistics performance

Road transport is a core component of Frigo Group’s services. Whether it concerns transport within the Netherlands or internationally, we offer a wide range of services:

  • Transport types: dry transport, ambient transport, refrigerated transport, frozen transport.
  • Types of cargo: general cargo, groupage (LTL – less than truckload), FTLs (Full Truck Loads) with dedicated freight.
  • Fleet and employees: own vehicle capacity plus selected partnerships (“preferred suppliers”), experienced drivers and planners who speak multiple languages. All this with quality standards such as ISO certifications and skilled personnel.
  • Conditioned transport: essential for frozen goods – this means that storage, loading/unloading and transport must meet strict requirements (temperature monitoring, skilled personnel) to maintain the cold chain.

This combination enables Frigo Group to provide fast, reliable and safe transport, both for short journeys within the United Kingdom and longer routes in Europe.

Transport to France: daily connections and specialisms

France is one of the most important destinations for Frigo Group Transport. The Paris, Rouen and Lyon regions are served daily from the Netherlands, often via Belgium or Luxembourg.

Some features of Frigo’s French connection with regard to transport to France:

  • Regularity: daily transport connections, both for general cargo and for steel, machinery and refrigerated/frozen goods.
  • Choice of transport modes: FTL (full truck loads), groupage (bundling of smaller loads) and refrigerated/frozen trucks for temperature-sensitive products.
  • Language & service: planners who speak both Dutch and French to ensure smooth communication and efficient planning.
  • Efficiency & cost benefits: groupage to France is not only cost-effective, but also contributes to sustainability by bundling loads.

Sustainability, quality and vision

Frigo Group has a strong focus on quality and sustainability. The founder’s values of “no-nonsense, customer-focused, efficient, safe and certified” still prevail. Attention is paid to energy consumption in cold stores, waste streams, continuous staff training and the modernisation of systems such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Transport Management Systems (TMS).
